New HSBC Chief Executive Officer for Ireland Back

Simon Wainwright is the new chief executive officer for Ireland at HSBC Bank. He replaces Charles Gregory, who after four years as CEO for Ireland now moves to Hanoi, Vietnam, to manage HSBC’s expanding insurance business there.
Wainwright has spent over 10 years with HSBC and previously served as chief operating officer of HSBC UK Commercial Banking. He also spent three years in the financial services industry in Northern Ireland during the 1980s.
In November HSBC confirmed that following continued strong growth in its Irish businesses, it was signing a 25-year lease on a new 70,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in Dublin’s Grand Canal Square.

Wainwright said, ‘Following a period of growth we must now work to consolidate our business here to create a more recognisable brand in the Irish market. Our corporate and private banking businesses are at the early stages of development; the objective is to grow them in line with the demand within the Irish market for global banking expertise. Our fund administration and insurance units are playing a key role in the international growth of these businesses for HSBC and I’m confident that they will continue to show strong revenue growth in the coming years. A further challenge will be to develop a strategy that integrates all of HSBC’s businesses across both the Republic and Northern Ireland.'
