Joe Kavanagh
Head of Performance Measurement & Risk Analysis, KBC Asset Management Ltd.

Current responsibilities:
I manage a small team of performance analysts and am charged with the responsibility of managing the performance measurement process for client funds of KBC Asset Management Ltd, analysing and identifying core factors behind return outcomes and measuring the ex-post risk incurred in the management of those client funds.

Education: Third level: DIT & Trinity College Dublin, Business Studies, 1986; Second level: Tallaght Community School.
Other qualifications: ASIP qualification from the UK Society of Investment Professionals (1992) and the CFA qualification from CFA Institute (2004).
Professional memberships: The Society of Investment Analysts in Ireland & CFA Institute. I am the current serving President of the Irish Society and a Presidents Council member of CFA Institute.

Career progress: 1987 – 1988: graduate trainee, investment management division of Ulster Investment Bank. Primary duties directed at service delivery to a number of large mutual fund customers; 1989 – 1998: client services manager, Ulster Bank Investment Managers Ltd. Management of the client relationship between the company and a large number of its segregated and unitised investment clients; 1999 to date: head of performance measurement and risk analysis, KBC Asset Management Ltd. Measurement and interpretation of the investment return experience of client funds through the use of measurement and analytical systems. Additionally the team makes a key contribution to the measurement of market risk incurred by the client base and has had an increasing involvement in the product development function within the firm.

Special projects: The first domestic asset management firm to be independently verified for GIPS compliance in 1999.
Personal: Date of birth: February 18th, 1964; Place of birth: Roscrea, Co Tipperary. Family: Wife Marian, and three children (Cian, Dylan and Chloe).

Interests: Golf, Reading, Travel.

John McGrane
Head of Business & Commerical Banking, Ulster Bank.

Current responsibilities: Leadership of Ulster Bank’s business banking services to the SME sector throughout Ireland.

Career progress: With Ulster Bank Group since 1974. Career spans numerous roles in sales, service, credit and general management.

Special projects: Rolled out Ulster Bank’s network of Business Centres throughout Ireland and has developed Ulster Bank’s service model for the business banking sector.
Personal: Date of birth: 24th May 1957; Place of birth: Drogheda, Co. Louth. Family: Married to Irene with three children – Valerie (18), Mary (16), Jack (14).
