UK banks dominate Q3 |
Back |
UK banks again dominated corporate finance advisory activity in the third quarter of 2007, with Morgan Stanley topping the league table having worked on two deals valued at €6.6 billion. Goldman Sachs and UBS take up second and third place while the only Irish firm on the list is IBI Corporate Finance in ninth place.
There is a stronger Irish presence when financial advisers are ranked by deal volume rather than deal value. IBI Corporate Finance is the top dog having worked on nine deals valued at almost €1.5 billion in the third quarter. Also in the top ten are Davy Corporate Finance in joint third with six deals and AIB Corporate Finance in joint seventh position with five deals.
One of the largest deals transacted during the period was the €5.7 billion acquisition of Depfa Bank by German bank Hypo Real Estate.
Looking forward, mergermarket expects M&A activity in Europe to shrink by around 10 per cent over the next quarter, as private equity players look likely to play less of a role over the coming months and trade buyers reassert their authority. |
