Financial exports at 37 per cent Back
Ireland’s international financial services industry accounted for over a third of total Irish services exports, the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern pointed out this month. Speaking at the launch of a new global HQ for RBS Aviation Capital in the Custom House Docks he said that ‘recent CSO figures confirm the valuable contribution of the industry. They show that over one third of all services exports from Ireland are now international financial services exports’. The CSO statistics show that in 2006 the three sectors of ‘insurance’, ‘operational leasing’ and ‘financial services’ accounted for exports of ?20,376, which was 37.0 per cent of total services exports of ?55,051 for the year, and 14.7 per cent of total national (merchandise and services) exports of ?138,406 in 2006. The financial services proportion of services exports was up from 32.8 per cent in 2005.
