New president for actuaries
Philip Shier is the new president of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He has represented the Society on the Pensions Committee of the Groupe Consultatif Actuariel Europ?en since 1999, and has been chairman of that committee since 2005. Shier has been a senior actuary with Hewitt for 25 years.

BIAM strengthens investment team
Leona Nicholson has rejoined Bank of Ireland Asset Management (BIAM) as head of Irish Equities and Head of Global Equity Product. Meanwhile, Lance Graham has been appointed Head of UK Equities and Co-Manager of Eurozone Equities.
Graham has joined BIAM from AIB Investment Managers where he was responsible for the management of UK Equities and AIBIM’s Global Equity Product. He was also responsible for the pharmaceutical, media and mining sectors of the pan-European funds.
Peter de Lacy has been appointed a Senior Research Analyst at BIAM and will specialise in the technology & telecommunications sector.
Brian Routledge, in addition to his role as head of US Equities, has been appointed head of BIAM’s Concentrated Global Equity Product. Routledge has more than 18 years investment management industry experience. He joined BIAM from Citigroup Asset Management in Stamford, Connecticut.

New president of ITI
Joan O’Connor, an international taxation partner at Deloitte, has been appointed as the new president of the Irish Taxation Institute (ITI).
The Institute has also announced the appointment of the first co-opted members to its council. Paul Haran, a former secretary general of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, and Don Thornhill, chairman of the National Competitiveness Council, are the two members to join the ITI’s council.

ILIM appoints senior equity strategist
James Forbes is a new senior equity strategist at Irish Life Investment Managers (ILIM). Forbes joins ILIM from Hibernian Investment Managers where he has worked as a senior investment manager. Prior to that role, he was a senior equity analyst with Goodbody Stockbrokers.

New executive appointment at BoI
Bank of Ireland has unveiled Christine Brennan as head of group human resources. Brennan will also be a member of the Group Executive Committee. She joins from Barclays Bank Group where she held the position of human resources director, global and retail banking. Brennan preivously held senior HR roles with Computer Science Corporation, British Telecommunications and AT & T in the United States, London and in the Middle East.

New MD at TMF
Kieran Desmond has been appointed managing director of TMF Management (Ireland) Limited. Desmond replaces Mattijs Sibbing in the role. Sibbing has left the Irish branch of the company to go on sabbatical leave, but will be joining TMF’s Hong Kong team next year.

New CFO at Elavon
Elavon Financial Services,
US Bancorp’s recently established European bank, has announced the appointment of Malcolm Towlson as chief financial officer. Towlson was previously CFO with HSBC Bank, Ireland.

New board appointment at Universal Honda
David Meade has been appointed to the board of Universal Honda Limited as finance director. Meade’s board appointment follows 23 years in the finance division of the company as financial controller. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland.

NIB appoints head of wealth management
National Irish Bank has announced the appointment of Garvan Callan as head of wealth management. Callan joins from Ulster Bank where he held the position of director of wealth management. At NIB, Callan will be responsible for developing and managing wealth advisory services to National Irish Bank’s growing number of personal and business customers.

Three senior appointments at Merril Lynch
Merrill Lynch has recruited three senior staff
to join their newly established Global Private Client (GPC) group. Richard Dunn, Michael Durkin and Maeve Corr have all joined the
firm and will be based in Dublin. Dunn, who has more than 20 years experience in the financial services industry, joins as a portfolio manager, while Corr and Durcan join as financial advisors.

Board appointment at AIB
Allied Irish Banks (AIB) has a new non-executive director, Stephen Kingon. Kingon, who recently retired as managing partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers, in Northern Ireland, is chairman of Invest Northern Ireland, the key economic development agency, and is chairman of the Centre for Competitiveness.

Healy new director general of UAE stock exchange
The board of the Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM) has appointed Tom Healy as director general. Healy, aged 57, was previously chief executive of the Irish Stock Exchange. He was head of the Irish Exchange for 20years, from February 1987 to June 2007.
Healy has carried out numerous consultancy and advisory assignments internationally, mainly on capital markets, including for the World Bank, the European Union and USAID. He has also served on a number of boards and committees in Ireland. He was actively involved in the World Federation of Exchanges and the Federation of European Securities Exchanges.

Accountancy Solutions directors
Mary Grealy and Yvonne Rafter have been appointed as directors at Accountancy Solutions, an accountancy and financial recruitment firm. Both Grealy and Rafter have been on the senior management team of the company for a number of years and have made a significant contribution to the development of the company.
Mitchell joins Seniors Money
Seniors Money, Ireland’s leading lifetime mortgage provider, has appointed Peter Mitchell to the position of chief executive officer. Prior to joining to Seniors Money, Mitchell built a very successful public relations business, on the back of over 15 years experience in the financial services industry. Previous to this, he held a number of senior positions in Canada Life.
