Ulster Bank targets the waste sector Back

Ulster Bank has launched a €500 million loan fund, available to companies operating in the waste management sector.
The loan fund is available to both public and private sector operators to fund investments and expansion as well as mergers and acquisitions. The minimum loan size is €100,000 and loans are subject to normal lending criteria.

Ireland’s waste management sector has an estimated current value of €1.4 billion with around 60 per cent of municipal waste collection now carried out by the private sector.

‘Given the EU-driven waste management agenda, increasing environmental and regulatory requirements and the resulting requirement for capital investment, this sector is a significant growth area in Ireland,’ said Olaf Fitzsimmons, associate director of corporate banking, Ulster Bank.

‘From a corporate perspective, the sector will be characterised by mergers and acquisitions; consolidation of waste operators; diversification of current companies into new aspects of the sector; and the arrival of new operators to the waste management market,’ he added.
