Bonuses exceed expectation in 2006 |

Almost half of employees working in financial services received a larger bonus than they were expecting this year. The findings, from a recent online poll by Robert Half Finance and Accounting, reflect the buoyant state of the financial services sector in Ireland. |
The poll also showed that 19 per cent of finance workers received the same bonus as previous years, while just over one in four workers (27 per cent) received a smaller bonus than they expected. One in eight (13 per cent) did not expect any bonus at all.
Ken Harbourne, branch manager of Robert Half Finance & Accounting in Dublin, said that many employers use bonuses to assist staff retention. However he warned, ‘Employers looking to use a bonus for retention purposes need to ensure expectations are set at a realistic level. If not, they run the risk of severely damaging moral. Today, employers need to consider a broader approach to retention that includes both financial and non financial benefits’. |
