Farell is a founding member, along with Greg Sparks, of Farrell Grant Sparks (FGS), business advisers and consultants. Since the firm’s formation in 1982, FGS has grown in stature and experience and is now one of Ireland’s top ten accountancy practices, with offices in Dublin and Belfast. The firm has 10 partners and over 90 professional staff.
As joint managing partner alongside Sparks, Farrell is responsible for overseeing the firm’s strategic direction, and is partner-in charge of the firm’s corporate restructuring and turnaround services.
Career progress
Born in Galway, Farrell pursued a B.Comm in University College Dublin. After graduating, he trained as a chartered accountant, ACCA, and as a licensed insolvency practitioner in the UK.

Special projects
With total appointments now in excess of 250, Farrell has recently acted as receiver in some of Ireland’s most high profile corporate failures, including the Comer Group of Companies, Eurofood IFSC (the Irish subsidiary of Parmalat Group), the development companies responsible for the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin, the Holiday Inn Hotel in Dublin, Ryan’s landmark licenced premises in Parkgate Street, International Financial Systems and a large complex tax based development on behalf of an international bank.
Farrell has also acted in various recent high profile liquidation assignments including Business & Finance Magazine, Rocca Tiles & Tilebusters, Lernout & Hauspie, Rubear Motair Teoranta, The Commons Restaurant and Dardis & Dunns Seeds. He has also been involved in turnaround where he has worked closely with companies, financial institutions and other stakeholders in devising innovative solutions for underperforming concerns. |
