Upsurge in accountancy jobs as growth of 21 per cent is predicted over the next year Back  
Firms responding to the annual FINANCE accountancy survey say that they will recruit over a thousand additional employees in the coming year, with the introduction of new accountancy standards being cited as a key driver of the growth.
Currently recruiting for accountants are a number of Ireland’s leading professional services firms, including Russell Brennan Keane, which focuses on providing business and taxation advice to owner-managed businesses and high net-worth individuals. The firm is recruiting for a number of senior positions, including a taxation partner for its Dublin office, and a director of taxation for its Athlone office. (see also page 5).

Another participant in this year’s survey which is currently actively recruiting is Horwarth Bastow Charleton (HBC). In the survey, corporate finance was identified as the biggest growth area for accountants, and HBC is currently looking to fill a number of positions in its corporate finance division.

Two of the ‘Big 4’ firms are also recruiting. Deloitte is looking for a senior manager in its specialised finance team, which is engaged in project finance, PPP transactions, business modeling and related advisory work across a number of industry sectors, and PricewaterhouseCoopers is looking for recruits to its Hong Kong and China offices.

Derivatives
Also looking for accountants is JP Morgan in London, which is recruiting for its credit derivatives and credit hybrids businesses. It is looking to fill a number of positions at varying levels across its P&L and risk reporting functions.

Corporate finance
Montaigne Investment Corporation, the M&A adviser, with a speciality focus in the areas of deal structuring, sourcing acquisition targets, fund raising, debt structuring, management buy-outs, sourcing merger partners and private placements for privately held and publicly traded corporations in the European Union, is recruiting for a business development director to work with senior management on securing new business for the company.

Banking
Due to continued growth at AIB Structured Finance, which consists of a team of twenty professionals covering structured trade finance, project finance, structured telecoms and asset finance, the firm is looking to hire a senior professional to take responsibility for all aspects of project finance, from deal origination, through internal approvals and contract negotiation. Also at AIB, but on the treasury side, AIB Global Markets has opportunities for treasury professionals in proprietary dealing and treasury sales in its Dublin, London and Manchester offices.

Merrill Lynch recently opened its European support hub in Leopardstown in Dublin 18, and now employs 500 staff in Ireland primarily in the back and middle office, supporting trades for Merrill Lynch clients across Europe. The firm is looking to recruit extra staff to these functions, including an assistant vice president for the bond middle office/trade processing area, an AVP for the product control group, and an AVP for the documentation group. All of the positions are based in Merrill Lynch’s other Irish office in Dublin 2.

Stockbroking
Professionals with bond sales experience are required at Goodbody Stockbrokers. The firm is looking to recruit candidates with at least three years experience in a wide range of markets including credit sales, credit analysis and/or government sales.

Insurance
In 2003, Canada Life, including its Irish asset management arm Setanta Asset management, and its IFSC international insurance business Canada Life Europe, was acquired by Great-West Lifeco Inc. Following the worldwide acquisition, a major new investment programme is being launched in Ireland and Germany. As a result, the firm is looking to hire a significant number of new employees including a head of marketing, a head of sales opportunities, and a product development actuary.

Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, the European subsidiary of US insurance company Chubb, which employs over 12,000 people worldwide, is looking to recruit two candidates to its Dublin based team. The firm is looking for a personal lines manager, who will be responsible for the underwriting and development of one the firm’s key product. In addition, a financial lines development underwriter is sought to underwrite and develop the portfolio, taking responsibility for the profitability and underwriting integrity of financial lines through a select broking network.

FINEX Europe, a division of the New York Board of Trade, is looking for a price reporter for its global currency futures and options exchange. The role involves monitoring and inputting trades as they happen on the trading floor.
