Traders to build houses Back
Two of Bank of Ireland Global Markets traders are about to swap their Bloomberg screens for builder’s tools. Paul Flynn (trading group) and Joe Dunphy (financial institutions) have signed up for this years ‘Niall Mellon Township Challenge’ in South Africa.
TThe two traders left for South Africa on October 15th where they were joined by 300 other volunteers. Together they will set out to build up to 60 houses aided by their own fundraising efforts to raise at least €5,000 each - enough for one complete house!

The building will take place in an area called Imizamo Yethu on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa. Here over 12,000 people live in the most basic tin shacks. The Niall Mellon initiative aims to support the local population so they can help themselves by providing the funds and expertise to build homes with running water and electricity. Ultimately, the building volunteers and contributors hope to give the children of this impoverished community a decent start in life.
