Using the Dublin franchise to grow your company was the main topic of the fifth annual Finance Dublin conference, and case studies from recennt success stories such as Merrill Lynch and Hypo Real Estate International identified how they expanded their Dublin operations.
New ideas on Dublin’s future were put forward throughout the day, with Paul McGowan, a partner with KPMG causing some controversy by suggesting that tax harmonisation within the EU should be on Ireland’s agenda going forward.
Also on the agenda were potential new areas of growth for Dublin with the pensions pooling vehicle discussed by Martin Jack of IBM, and hedge fund manager Richard Burdon saying that there is a huge potential to develop Dublin as a management centre.
A special FSI/FD colloquium on ‘A European Vision for Global Financial Services’ was also held at the conference. For full conference report see page 16. |
