Chief Executive, IBI Corporate Finance
Current responsibilities: Responsible for co-coordinating IBICF’s services to a wide range of public, semi-state and private companies. IBI is Ireland’s leading independent financial adviser, advising on takeovers, IPOs, mergers & acquisitions and fundraisings. Recent deals include advising on the Green and Smurfit offers.

Career progress: Qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in 1987 and transferred to KPMG’s corporate finance division where I spent six years advising on a range of transactions, including the privatisation of the B&I Line. Joined IBI in 1993. Whilst in IBI between 1993 and 1996 I advised on a number of transactions including the acquisition by Jefferson Smurfit of Cellulose du Pin and the related IR£161m rights issue, the acquisition by Aer Rianta of a 40 per cent stake in Birmingham International Airport and the offer by DCC for the minority interests in Flogas.
Left IBI in 1996 to join Sigma Communications Group as an executive director. I was a member of the team which built Sigma from a turnover of IR£15m in 1995 to an estimated IR£75m in 1999. Following the successful disposal of two of Sigma’s divisions, I returned to IBI as chief executive in August 1999.
Most recently been involved in the take-over of Golden Vale by Kerry Group; advised the independent directors of Jefferson Smurfit Group in relation to the offer by MDP, and the independent directors of Green Property plc on the offer by Rodinheights.

Interests: Theatre deputy chair of the Dublin Theatre Festival, golf, music, travel and a sporting couch potato.
Recommended books: Most business books are turgid. I try to avoid them; I read voraciously on holiday, best recent read ‘Atonement’ by Ian McEwan.
