Leader of Mercer Investing Consulting , Mercer Human Resource Consulting
Current responsibilities: I’m responsible for all investment consulting services offered to our clients. This includes advice on investment strategy, investment management structure and investment manager selection exercises. Our clients are mostly large institutional pension funds but we also provide investment consultancy services to charities, insurance companies, endowment funds and private investment trusts.

Education: Third level: Graduated with a degree in Economics and Statistics from UCD in 1992. Thankfully, just coming to the end of a 2-year MBA program at the Smurfit Business School.
Second level: Palmerstown Community School.
Other qualifications: Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland
Professional memberships: Member of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland where I sit on the Investment Committee and also on the Investment Committee of the IAPF.
Career progress: Joined NM Life from college as a trainee actuary. From there, I moved into the actuarial department of Friends First following the takeover of NM. On qualifying as an actuary in 1997, I moved next door to Irish Pensions Trust where I headed up the fledging investment consulting department. Following the takeover of IPT by Mercer, I joined the Investment Practice of the merged entity. I was made an Irish partner of Mercer in 2000. In June of last year, I was appointed Head of Mercer Investment Consulting, which is now a separate company within the Mercer Group. Recently appointed to the position of European Partner.
Special projects: Most interesting project I’ve worked on to date was our appointment to advise on the investment strategy and manager structure of the •8bn National Pensions Reserve Fund. We are still very much involved in carrying out various assignments for the NPRF, through their executive at the NTMA.
Awards: Awarded 5 first place scholarships when at UCD including first place in both final year subjects.
Personal: Date of birth: 2/8/71. Place: Dublin. Family: Married to Ann and expecting our first child in July.
Social & sporting memberships: I play squash as often as I can and I’m a member of Total Fitness gym in Castleknock. I watch all types of sports particularly soccer and I try to get to Anfield once a season.
Interests: I’m interested in all types of sports and am quickly developing an interest in parenting skills!
Recommended books: The most thought provoking business-related material I’ve read in the past few years have been Harvard Business Review Case Studies. For entertainment, The Green Mile by Stephen King. |
