Career path: Joined Kennedy Crowley in 1965, qualifying in 1968. Left to join Guinness that year. Headed up Guinness's internal consultancy division from 1981 before returning to the finance function in the mid- 1980s. Became director of financial control for Guinness Ireland. Joined the board of Guinness Ireland Group in 1992 as finance director. Became finance and administration director in 1996.
