DG of Internal Market to speak in Dublin Back
John Mogg the Director General (DG) of the Internal Market Directorate (formally DGXV) of the European Commission will address delegates at the upcoming Finance Dublin Conference in March. The Internal Market has very important implications for the IFSC as it strives to create a single European market for financial services including banking, insurance, pension funds, securities and to harmonise company law, accounting and auditing rules across Europe.

Commissioner Frits Bolkestein is in charge of the Internal Market Directorate and John Mogg as DG is second in command. Mogg has to co-ordinate and maintain a strategic overview of the Financial Services Action Plan and prepare progress reports for the Ecofin Council. He participates in a number of international fora, notably Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, Banking Supervision Committee of the European Central Bank and the Joint Forum on financial conglomerates.

Mogg also has responsibility for the legislation on UCITS to facilitate the distribution of units of such funds across the Community.

Prior to 1993 when Mogg became the DG, he was Deputy Director General in the Internal Market and Industrial Affairs Directorate General. Between 1989 and 1990, he was Deputy Head of the European Secretariat in the United Kingdom Cabinet Office and before that he held a number of senior positions within various United Kingdom Departments.

The full details of the conference programme and speakers biographies are available on the conference website: www.findub.com.
