Accolades for leading Irish law firms Back
Arthur Cox has been voted the top Irish law firm for the fourth consecutive year in the Global Counsel 3000 survey, while Matheson Ormsby Prentice has the distinction of being the only Irish law firm to be ranked on the Euromarket Medium Term Notes transactions tables published by Euromoney magazine in January 2003.

The Global Counsel 3000 survey entitled ‘Which Irish Lawyer’, also published in 2003, is an independent survey of in-house lawyers’ views. Arthur Cox continued its dominant run, ranking as the leading Irish law firm in nine categories of law - banking and debt finance, communications, competition/antitrust, company and corporate transactions, dispute resolution, employment and employee, M&A, real estate and construction, and restructuring and insolvency.

The firm was also ‘highly recommended’ in eight categories and had thirty individual partners and consultants named as ‘highly recommended’ or ‘recommended’.

Joint runners up in the survey were McCann Fitzgerald and A&L Goodbody followed by Matheson Ormsby Prentice and William Fry solicitors.

Matheson Ormsby Prentice was also the sole Irish law firm to make it onto the Euromoney Medium Term Notes tables recently published by Euromoney magazine in the UK.

Patrick Molloy, a partner in the Banking and Financial Services Group at Matheson Ormsby Prentice, said he was pleased that there has been some recognition of the role of the Irish market in transactions of this kind. He also indicated that he expects to see more medium term note programmes involving Irish issuers in the future.
The Euromoney league table was topped by UK firm, Linklaters, which last year won roles advising either the issuer or arranger on 39 deals, 10 more than second placed Allen & Overy.
