Pfizer brings new business to Dublin Back
Ireland beat off competition from more than 17 other countries to be chosen as the location for Pfizer’s European financial shared services centre (FSSC). Based in the centre of Dublin the new operation will create around 200 jobs, with 130 of these jobs to be filled by the end of the year.

Operating separately from Pfizer International Bank Europe, which employs nine people in Dublin’s docklands, and whose principal activities are the provision of loans to wholesale clients in conjunction with investments on the international money markets and funding operations, the FSSC will process activities for the company’s European operations in areas such as purchase payments, travel, transactional tax and treasury and general accounting.

Commenting on the decision to base the centre in Dublin, Helmut Kasztner, director of the Pfizer European Financial Shared Services Centre, said, ‘We conducted extensive research to identify the best location for this crucial business function. Ireland faced strong competition for this project but Dublin was chosen mainly because of its access to a broad base of skilled resources.’

This is the second new FSSC to be announced in recent times. In December Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), known previously as Allergan Pharmaceuticals, expanded its IFSC FSSC into the west of Ireland, opening a new operation in Westport, Co.Mayo. This operation, which will employ 30 people, will serve as AMO’s central office for Europe, Africa and the Middle East region, providing financial services support and co-ordinating key services and functions relating to the financial administration of the company.
